With my good friend Allison at Motherhood WTF preparing to take an epic flight to New Zealand, I found this picture of wee future traveler Adora to be particularly apt.
Adora’s mom, Ruth, tells me this girl was sitting in her Bumbo waiting for a meal, and I’ll be damned if I haven’t had this experience on an overstuffed jet crossing the Atlantic many a time.
Only I never recline my seat all the way, people.
Quick nap before meal service
I think Ruth is going to have to explain to Adora that only huge men with stinky feet recline their seats all the way when meal service is ramping up. How the heck is a person to eat her custard with some guy’s greasy head pushing it into her lap?
In the meantime, I guess we should still take a moment to appreciate Adora’s flexibility. She will no doubt make a superb globetrotter. Once she gets out of this infernal Bumbo.
Keep the skies friendly for Allison, friends. Recline halfway. Over and out.
You know how you get so hungry sometimes that you find yourself just shoveling your lunch in? And then you are simultaneously chugging your drink and taking a nap to rev yourself back up for the afternoon meeting?
Wait…no, me neither.
Alicia, on the other hand, has got this multi-tasking thing down. She also appears to have gotten a large quantity of pasta or, uh, sweet potatoes? down as well. Right before downing her bottle and taking a train down to Dreamland.
Shh! I'm slurping. I mean sleeping.
Slurping…excuse me, sleeping is an important skill. Her mom, Jennifer, must be so proud.
Ziva sent me this picture of her daughter, who is carrying on the great tradition of sleeping at mealtimes.
Hand to Mouth
As is the case in so many of these situations, I wish that there had been a video, instead. Apparently, she traversed new territory by actually continuing to eat while napping! Reportedly, she snoozed away while slowly taking bites of toast.
Now that is a multi-tasker, folks. I predict a long and illustrious career for her as a project manager. At a test kitchen.
After being up with a really feverish child last night, I can certainly relate to Liam.
Um...you're in my "dance space."
His mom, Desiree, had no problem with getting right up in his chubby little face in order to capture this great moment of relaxation.
And what’s wrong with it? We all like to push back after a great meal and digest for a moment.
Hey! You! That's better. Stay back.
Sleep and eat. Sleep and eat. It’s a toddler’s life.
The table nap is growing in popularity.
Child's (Chair) Pose
The first time I saw it, I thought it would be the last. As usual, I was wrong. In this case, there wasn’t even a big meal involved.
Okay – well, maybe that’s a cookie next to his cup. But isn’t that supposed to make him wired?
All curled up...
I’d say it’s the soft chair, but that hasn’t shown to be a major factor in the past.
So much for sitting nicely at the table.
I’m too tired to keep thinking about it. We’ll have to table this discussion and continue it later.
This Sleeping Beauty is wearing the wrong Disney princess as a mascot, as she is clearly more inclined to emulate one of the snoozier ladies.
What came first, the spillage or the nap?
I’m grateful to Jennifer for sending me this snap of her daughter Rayne, who clearly just couldn’t make it through her entire meal before conking out.
But wait! There is more!
Her brother Trace was also overcome mid-sip, adding to the growing evidence that some type of evil lunchtime spell has been wrought.
On the other hand, what may be an evil sleeping spell to the child can be a fairy’s gift to an exhausted parent. Tandem nap? YES, PLEASE!
For that, my lovelies, is the most powerful magic of all. Have a great weekend!
