Breaking the Law

21 Nov

I guess, after all this time and all these naps, you’re just going to yawn when you see this and say, “Oh, Cormac is on the floor AGAIN.”  And, it’s true, naps on the floor are nothing new at my house.

Here we see your typical snore on the floor.

Mmmm. Comfy.

Knowing our middle school science, we look at this photo and assume he fell off the ottoman. After all, “what goes up must come down, right?” Lucky he didn’t conk himself on that high chair!  But wait…is that really how this story unfolded? I can tell you from the order in which I took the pictures that we defied gravity.

Snooze the First

Interesting spot he chose.

and he left his juice behind!

But then I left the room and returned a few minutes later…and this is what I saw.

Defying Gravity

Looks like he realized the ottoman was comfier and managed to haul himself back up there…mostly. I wonder how long he’ll stay? The lesson he has ahead of him: Obey gravity. It’s the law.

For now, he triumphs.

Sadly, we will see soon enough that, around here, a body at rest doesn’t stay at rest. Chaos will soon ensue.

Mocking Mom

7 Sep

Before I had children, I just knew they’d have perfect manners.  Now I see the mockery they have made of my parenting dreams.  No food on the floor?

Laughable.

Pick up your toys?

Comical.

No shoes on the couch?

Born in a barn, that one.

And then there’s his brother, who only sleeps on floors and ottomans…where your feet are SUPPOSED to go.

at least he's barefoot.

He’s just settling in here.  You can see he cracked an eye at me as I snapped the photo.  And he’s probably thinking…WINNING!  I flout your household rules once more!

Here’s to well-trained children.

Double Take

6 Jul

I know what you’re thinking.  She’s lost her edge, that nap lady.  I could produce a nap like this!

Oh, so WHAT??!

It’s true.  Every toddler falls asleep on the couch.  Who cares?  Ah!  But look more closely!

There's another one!

Two babies!

Oh yeah. The floor nap is ON.

…plus poor old Blue Puppy.  If you can find him.

Snooze on, people.  Snooze on.

Unsynchronized Sleepers

27 May

As we all avoid Friday afternoon meetings, watch the clock, and count down to the first cocktail…er…hotdog…I thought it appropriate to send everyone off with some sleepy togetherness.   We may not always be in sync while snoozing, but we can still enjoy lounging about in bed on the floor.

Holiday weekend with family...

I am going to appreciate these precious moments because I know that it won’t be too many more years before the brother who was sleeping will be waking up with something scrawled on his face in magic marker.

Unconsciousness is bliss.

May your tanks be full and your bladders empty, as you ride off into the sunset for beachier pastures.  Or just crack open a cold one on your deck.

Happy Memorial Day weekend!  Summer is here…

The Gift of Sleep — Any Sleep

21 Feb

Poor wee Cormac has the croup again (seriously?  at age two?  again?) and after two awful nights, we are sleep-walking adults who are dreaming of dreaming.  Does that make any sense?  Pass the coffee, please.

I like to think of Cormac like this:

Goofy is still capable of surprise.

Goofy seems a little surprised that Cormac would choose to sleep on the floor instead of this nice, comfy couch.  However, he’s game to try anything.

Buzz is having trouble falling asleep.

Buzz is having more trouble adapting to this hard bed.  He just…can’t…seem…to… RELAX!

I’m going to need some serious laughs to get through this day.  Happy Monday, indeed.

Firm Bed Better For Back

14 Jan

I realize I’m bending the rules a little here, showing an evening sleep event (I’ve done this only once before) and I can’t say for sure whether this particular bedtime location change occurred while William was awake or asleep.  Those of you who “know” him will agree that either scenario is possible.

Likes roughing it.

When I was little, I remember occasionally falling out of my bed and screaming bloody murder for my Mom to come get me, because I was afraid of being snatched by underbed monsters.  William clearly has no such fear (possibly because there is no space under his bed, I suppose).  We actually opted to leave him on the floor all night, rather than waking him and disturbing his delicious repose.

Doesn’t he look snuggly?  I think, though, that his puppies are cold.

Happy Friday!  May you all wake up in your beds tomorrow.

The Shoe On the Other Foot

4 Nov

Have you ever woken up after a wild night of partying, in bed with your shoes on?  Or maybe you were just on the floor.

How about on the floor with one shoe on?

He got ONE off...

Poor Cormac.  They’re just wearing him out in the daycare room at the gym. No more play kitchen for him!

With this nap, I see true varsity potential.
